Questions from Citizens

Below are responses to questions fielded by members of the Recreation Commission, council members or administrative members regarding Recreational matters.  The source of the question follows the question, which is listed in italics.

Why do taxpayers have to PAY for swim coaches?  All other coaches in Greenhills volunteer their services! (Pat Andwan)

The comparison between swim coaches and the other coaches for the recreational sports activities in the community are at completely different levels.  I coached recreational soccer for parts of 10 years in the village.  My time commitment was two 60-75 minute practices a week, and an hour long game on the weekend.  The time commitment of trained swim coaches is significantly greater, including participation in sessions every weekday from 7:30-10:00am, from June 6th through July 15th, and all day and into the evening during the swim championships. In addition there are 8 other meets during the season, each running from 5:30-9:30 in the evening. The time commitment is logarithmically different.

Why should taxpayers fund Dive-In movies and swim meet expenses, only available to swimming pool members and NOT the entire community?(Pat Andwan)

The list of suggestions on the document you received were just that: a list of suggestions.  Decisions on funding the programs listed on the document have not been made, nor frankly, have they been thoroughly vetted by the commission.  Our hope is to formalize the list, with the input from the survey, and other members of the community, to build to a more comprehensive and orderly progression of recommendations in support of the expectations of the community.

Participation in the Dine and Dive event was open to all members of the community.
Expenses should be covered by player fees? Payment for golf pro and tennis pro should be a player fee, not a taxpayer expense. (Pat Andwan)

Although we have not made a decision on the tennis pro teaching a session in the community, the concept of affordable tennis lessons has been floated by one of the members.  The decision to fund it out of the recreation budget has yet to made.

Is the Swim Team going to repay the Village from any profits of the regional Swim Meet? (Pat Andwan)

The swim team is a not a for-profit operation. As such, any proceeds after costs for food, staff, services, equipment rental and other extraneous costs that exceed the costs of the regional swim meet are plowed back into the program to sustain it during the years that it is not hosting the event.

Ms. Kovach, please announce at the April Council meeting the exact projected expense for painting/repair of the pool at the April Council meeting.  (Pat Andwan); What is the projected cost for the drinking fountain at Palma Park  (Pat Andwan).

What is the cost for trail signage?

The trail program is an idea that has been proposed.  As such, the cost of signage has not been determined.

What "trails" are being marked? (Pat Andwan)

None as of yet.

Can the budget accommodate at least one picnic table in each of the pocket parks? Palma Park should have at least two picnic tables, near the tennis courts.(Pat Andwan)

We will add the concept of a picnic table to the list of ideas for consideration by the committee.
Can the budget develop parking spaces (like that on Winton Rd. in Finneytown) near the Palma Park tennis courts? That area could park at least 30 vehicles, and take the stress off parking spaces on Andover and Chalmers.(Pat Andwan)

The concept of a parking lot off of Winton Road has already been added to the Recreation Idea Submission List Database by another citizen.
